Overview
In support of the UCSB mission of instruction, research, and public service, Capital & Physical Planning (CPP) oversees long-range planning for the campus and facilitates the development and utilization of campus infrastructure and physical facilities. We work with senior campus management to strategically invest and manage capital in alignment with the UCSB Long-Range Development Plan, Academic Plan, and Physical Design Framework.
Key Functions
Campus Planning and Design
- Plans for future needs through the Long-Range Development Plan
- Provides guidance on physical planning
- Conducts environmental assessments and propose alternatives or mitigations when needed
- Obtains regulatory approvals
- Promotes community planning
Capital Development
- Oversees the planning, funding, and approvals for all capital projects
- Prioritizes deferred maintenance projects
- Staffs the Campus Planning Committee (CPC)
- Manages campus inventory and space programming to maximize utilization
- Prepares analysis for leadership decision-making, UCOP reporting, and other agencies as needed

CAPP administers all phases of campus planning and capital development, and strives for design excellence to deliver the highest quality to UCSB students, faculty, and staff.
